Let’s talk about tear troughs. 👩🏻⚕️ I’ll start by saying that minor hollowing in the medial tear trough is normal. My 12 year-old has it and she is young and beautiful. That being said, we do tend to lose volume with age, which can exacerbate the natural valleys. We also lose collagen and elastin, a process that increases skin laxity and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Herniated fat pads can even occur and may require surgical intervention, depending on their severity. Your non-surgical aesthetic provider should have the expertise to refer a patient to a Plastic Surgeon for blepharoplasty options if they are truly a candidate and willing to consider that option. ⭐️
There are so many options for rejuvenation of the tear troughs, but the eye area is sensitive, so slow and steady wins the race. Here’s a before/after that was shared with me by a patient from out of state. This patient opted for immediate correction with low-dose HA (hyaluronic acid) and we intentionally under-treated her. Another option would have been PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) injections, which uses components of your own blood to tighten skin and build volume.
