Renew Your Skin with IPL PhotoFacials

Sun exposure is dangerous for your skin, particularly over time. The UV rays cause sun spots to develop and can leave your face with an uneven tone. Even if you do not spend much time in the sun, you may have rosacea (enlarged blood vessels) or visible spider veins on your face, arms, legs, or feet. Thankfully, these aesthetic problems can be treated non-surgically with an IPL PhotoFacial in Fairfield delivered by our skilled providers at Privá MedSpa in Fairfield, CT.

What is an IPL PhotoFacial?

An IPL PhotoFacial is an advanced light-based technology that utilizes intense pulsed light (IPL) to penetrate deep into the skin, pulling out and destroying overactive pigment-producing cells and breaking apart dark spots on your skin, which are then shed naturally, leaving your skin restored and evenly toned.

What can an IPL PhotoFacial treat?

An IPL PhotoFacial is a fantastic skin rejuvenation treatment that will reduce the effects of aging and sun damage. IPL PhotoFacials can treat a wide range of skin trouble areas, including:

  • Red and brown spots
  • Freckles
  • Sun spots
  • Age spots
  • Spider veins
  • Rosacea

You may need a series of three to five treatments, each scheduled about four weeks apart. A customized treatment plan will be created by our skincare experts, based on your individual skin condition and the level of rejuvenation you hope to achieve. An IPL PhotoFacial treatment can significantly enhance your skin quality, using the power of light therapy to address pigmentation issues, and trigger natural cell growth for healthy, glowing skin. Contact the Priva MedSpa to receive one of the best IPL Photofacials Westport has to offer.

How is the treatment done?

Arriving at our clinic with freshly washed, makeup-free skin, we will apply a cooling gel to your skin that enhances the effects of the light therapy. The IPL PhotoFacial device will deliver light energy to your skin in a grid-like pattern over the area being treated. The treatment lasts in the range of 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Once the treatment is complete, you can expect to look as if you have a mild sunburn for a few hours, which slowly fades. You will need to apply sunscreen and can use makeup right away. The pigmented areas on your skin will eventually form a crust and then flake off – revealing beautiful, new skin – free from unsightly age spots, sun spots, freckles, or other skin flaws!

Am I a candidate for an IPL PhotoFacial?

As an IPL PhotoFacial targets pigment and pigment-producing cells in the skin, people who are tanned or have dark skin may not be good candidates for an IPL PhotoFacial. Consult our skilled providers at Privá MedSpa to find out if an IPL PhotoFacial is right for you.

IPL Photofacial FAQs

Does IPL photofacial treatment hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation as a quick 'rubber band snap' against the skin. While you may feel a brief flash of heat, the procedure is generally well-tolerated. We often apply a cooling gel to the skin beforehand to ensure your comfort throughout the session.

Is there any downtime after an IPL Photofacial?

One of the biggest benefits of IPL is that there is virtually no downtime. You may experience mild redness or a slight 'sunburned' feeling for a few hours. You can return to your daily activities in Fairfield or Oxford immediately and can even apply makeup right after your appointment.

When will I see results?

You will likely notice a 'glow' within a few days, but the most significant changes occur as the pigment rises to the surface and flakes off—usually within 1 to 2 weeks. For concerns like rosacea or deep sun damage, a series of 3–5 treatments spaced about a month apart is typically recommended for optimal results.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

It is critical to avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for at least 4 weeks before your treatment. Because IPL targets pigment, having a tan can increase the risk of side effects. We also recommend discontinuing retinoids or harsh exfoliants a few days prior.

How long do the results last?

While IPL 'erases' existing damage, it cannot prevent new damage from forming. To maintain your results, we recommend a medical-grade skincare routine and daily application of SPF 30+. Many of our clients in the Westport and Fairfield areas schedule 'maintenance' sessions once or twice a year to keep their skin looking its best.
