Wrinkles and sagging skin are a part of the aging process, causing many of us to wish we could see our younger face again when we look in the mirror. But if you’re not ready for a facelift or other surgical procedure, a PDO thread lift might be a perfect treatment to turn back the clock and renew your youthful, firm features. This non-surgical treatment sculpts and lifts your facial appearance without incisions or downtime.

What are PDO threads?

PDO threads are dissolvable sutures that are inserted under the skin to lift, firm and refine your features. PDO, short for polydioxanone, is a durable, flexible polymer that the sutures (the PDO  “threads”) are made of. Over time, polydioxanone is eventually absorbed harmlessly into the body.

When inserted under the skin, the PDO threads suspend the underlying tissues and lift the sagging skin of your face to renew firmer, more sculpted lines.

Types of PDO Threads

There are three main textures of PDO threads that each provide a different degree of lift. During your consultation, we will examine your skin and discuss your aesthetic goals to decide which type of PDO thread lift is best suited for you.

  • Mono threads These smooth threads provide a small lift that increases the production of collagen as they tighten and firm the skin.

  • Cog threads These rougher-textured threads provide a stronger lift to tighten the skin more dramatically, while also increasing collagen production and youthful skin plumpness.

  • Screw threads These thicker, intertwined threads provide the most facial volume, strongest lift and more dramatically firm, sculpted contours.

How Does a PDO Thread Lift Work?

This minimally-invasive alternative to facelift surgery is designed to rejuvenate and lift sagging skin. It will take about one hour. Before your PDO thread lift treatment begins, we will use a marker to mark your skin in the places where the threads will be inserted.

A local anesthetic will be applied to ensure you are comfortable during your treatment. Once this has taken effect, the PDO threads will be inserted. The PDO threads are attached to a long cannula, or blunt-tipped needle. The cannula is carefully pushed through the tissue beneath the skin until the thread has reached its designated position. This process of lifting the skin will be repeated with as many threads as are needed to achieve your aesthetic goals. Each of the threads act as an anchor as the skin is lifted upwards.

Once the threads are in place, they will be massaged to ensure they are properly in place and the tissue is lying smoothly around them. Because the skin lifting is achieved mechanically with the PDO threads, the results are instant. You will notice tighter, firmer skin, which will continually improve as the boost in collagen production remodels the skin from the inside.

Results and Recovery After a PDO Thread Lift?

There is no downtime necessary after a PDO thread lift procedure. You can expect a minimal recovery period with some soreness or redness, and the puncture points of the threads will take a few weeks to heal.

You will be able to enjoy the results of your PDO thread lift right away, although thicker threads will need a bit longer before you see the final results. This is because the boost in collagen takes some time to fully transform the skin naturally from within. Final results will take 2-3 months to become fully visible.

Your skin will be lifted and tightened, with fewer lines and wrinkles, and a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. Although the results are not as dramatic as a facelift, there is a definite, long-lasting difference and improvement you will be able to enjoy.
